Monthly soil products program
What's in the program
Perth's soils are heavily sand based which means they are low on nutrients, have poor water holding capacity and prone are to becoming hydrophobic.
The monthly program consists of 3 products which can be applied together and work symbiotically to combat these issues with our soils, they are kelp extract, humic and fulvic acid and wetting agent.
How to apply
These soil based products can be mixed together and applied with a traditional backpack sprayer or with a hose connected device like an empty seasol bottle. The most important part is making sure the products are watered in with 10 millimeters of irrigation after application so they work through the soil profile and get to work in the root zone.
What do they do
The science around the benefits of these products is vast but in summary
Wax coatings readily form on sandy soils making them water repellent. This causes water to run off or evaporate rather then make it down to the root zone where the turf can use it. Wetting agent lowers the surface tension of the soil allowing water to penetrate the soil surface to the root zone. All our wetting agents also contain molecules that bind to the soil and retain moisture.
Kelp extract is a powerful bio stimulant that promotes root growth creating homes and food for beneficial microorganisms in the soil. The growth of microbial activity and roots in the soil also increases the water hold capacity of the soil and the plants resilience to stressors.
These acids work best in the soil where they can work as chelating agents to unlock nutrients and bind to them, making the nutrients in available forms for plants to uptake. Humic acid can also stimulate root and shoot growth, stimulate the microbial activity in soil, and improve the soil structure.
